In traditional architecture, domes are the most commonly used type of positive Gaussian curvature systems which are required to create a large and meaningful space; besides their weight, they bear environmental loads such as snow, wind, earthquake, temperature changes, and ground subsidence, within the surface. The whole building structure is shaped to support the dome, so the selection of material for its coating is very important. In Turkish places of worship, lead has been preferred as a covering material because it is durable, easy to take shape, and resistant to climate conditions. Today, some artisans still produce sheet lead of the desired specifications and quality by traditional methods in their workshops all over Anatolia. They have been producing for companies like Teknom Yapı which are determined to keep the tradition alive. Of course, today’s conditions and technical innovations have enabled us to produce more qualified materials. Among these, titanium zinc is more preferred than lead, because it is light compared to the lead, does not disturb the classic view, and has a similar texture.
